Ms. Andrea Love Art and Gifted Educator
TAG in 4th grade today was a great learning experience. Students were able to push through many challenges and made great choices in their learning. First, we watched a video about other students and how they became best friends with their friend. Students were asked to write about their friendship with someone and if it was like one of the students in the video. We then discussed the video along with the field trip and their future research project.
Student went to work on their CSFirst and Scratch. The CSFirst is a program that will teach the students step by step to create and adjust their coding story. After they get started on the coding they are off and running by solving many challenges.
I gave students the choice to work on their research projects after 9:50 or continue on their coding project. Students will be given time throughout the year to work on their research or they can work on it at home as well. I just don't want to burn out the students just on coding, but I do have some students who just want to code, and that is fine as well.
Student were also asked to do a writing promt that was a short story describes how a boy, Jared, helps a classmate, Jessica, on the first day of second grade. Jared and Jessica’s dislike for each other disappears after Jared rescues Jessica’s kittens. Students were asked to explain what happened and what you learned from this story on their Google classroom.
Class time went fast and we worked through everything as individuals and as a team by helping our neighbor if they needed help. We earned our last letter "S" and students will have a class party for part of the class period next week. Students may bring a snack and they will have free time to celebrate working well with each other and solving problems with coding.
November 7th at 6pm - 8pm is the parent conference that is being held in Columbia. Please let me know if you are interested in coming to the event to hear the speaker about Gifted Children. Your student will be able to play games such as Chess and Marble Run along with other games, with other gifted students from the area.
Have a wonderful day!
